Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar
Along the banks of the Peel River in the middle of Tamworth is Bicentennial Park. Located within the park is Hopscotch Restaurant and Bar. Open throughout the day, the restaurant has a simple yet elegant design with bright spaces and an expansive outdoor seating area.
There’s an all day menu with morning meals that include toast, croissants and all your breakfast favourites. You could go for the smoked salmon with avocado smash, Middle Eastern inspired Shakshouka baked eggs or the classic Big Aussie Brekkie. If you’d prefer something with a bit more fruit then the Tropical Morning acai bowl or vegan bowl might be for you.

Hissy Fits
Along the main street of Tamworth you are spoilt for choice when it comes to breakfast options! One that stands out due to its retro feel and delicious food is Hissy Fits. Serving brekky from 7.30am until 11.00am, this little cafe has dine-in and takeaway options with indoor and outdoor seating available.
The menu focuses on a divine collection of beautifully-made dishes, including a housemade granola with mixed season fruit, eggs benedict with a choice of salmon, bacon or mushrooms, and a breakfast burrito with bacon or chorizo and cauliflower. The cafe also serves a bacon and egg burger which some claim is the best they’ve ever had.
For drinks choose between a coffee, tea, iced drink, milkshake, smoothie or fresh juice. One thing you might not have tried before is Vietnamese iced coffee. It’s usually made by pouring a coffee shot over sweetened condensed milk before adding copious amounts of ice to chill it.

Ruby’s Cafe
Ruby’s Cafe is a boutique cafe in the heart of Tamworth. It boasts a welcoming atmosphere with good quality coffee and friendly service. As well as serving food, the cafe also sells fresh flowers, bespoke wedding cakes and a small selection of goods made in regional New South Wales.
The menu features many of the breakfast classics with a twist. For example, Ruby’s Avo Smash is served with feta, pine nuts and chili, while Ruby’s Granola is made with locally sourced granola, coconut yoghurt and honey from Mille Fleur, a Tamworth beekeeper. There’s a couple of kids dishes for the little ones, freshly baked cakes and daily specials on offer too.
Ruby’s have also given the drinks menu a bit of a lift with their signature Ruby Deluxe. This delicious creation is made by pouring an espresso over a cold mixture of brown sugar, coffee ice and coconut milk - yum!

Sonny’s Bakery
Sonny's Bakery started with a very simple idea; make good bread and team it with good coffee. Oh, and then there’s the pies and incredible cafe menu they offer daily. Local produce is used as often as possible and making simple food taste great is key to what they do.
If you’re planning to dine-in there's a choice between thick cut toast, smashed avo, a bacon and egg roll, eggs on toast or their very own Sonny Eggs Benny. Otherwise if you’re in a rush or need to get on the road just grab one of the “to go” options; the ham and cheese croissant looks tasty! Team the meal with your favourite coffee, a dirty chai, ice chocolate or tea.

Le Pruneau
Inspired by the flavours and techniques of French cooking, Le Pruneau is run by its passionate owner Becky. She places high importance on using local, organic ingredients which shape the seasonal menu.
Speaking of the menu, it features some unusual yet delicious breakfast dishes to try. There’s a sausage baguette with sauerkraut, cheese and tomato relish, pancakes topped with roasted apples, cashews and toffee sauce, as well as the option to build your own breakfast from the toast up. Pair it with a coffee, pot of tea, fruit smoothie or superfood latte.
Something unique to Le Pruneau is their organic market. Along the verandah and in the Market Room they stock fresh fruit and vegetables from local producers, and house made meats, cheeses and small goods. There’s also a selection of precooked meals in the fridge that you can take home for later, courtesy of the restaurant chef, and a variety of cakes and pies to choose from.

Humble
A relative newcomer to the Tamworth dining scene, Humble was opened by owner Julie Ferguson in early 2022. Housed inside a simple blue cottage the cafe has been embraced by locals who enjoy the good quality food and fun vibes.
Breakfast menu staples include the Humble Big Brekkie, avocado smash, corn and pea fritters, and bacon and egg rolls. Accompanying this are the daily specials which look delectable. In the past there’s been Bee Sting Waffles with custard cream, honey hazelnut toffee and blueberry compote, as well as homemade baked beans with spicy chorizo, poached eggs and sourdough.
To go with your breakfast order a hot or cold drink such as a coffee, tea or iced chocolate. The coffee is made with beans from Seven Miles, a specialty coffee roastery with locations in Brisbane, Canberra, Wollongong and Orange.

The Bell House
Housed in an old church, the Bell House Tamworth is a gift shop and cafe. It’s owned by longtime Tamworth resident Colin Knights, who after years of working at other local institutions has realised his dream of having his own place.
The menu serves a range of classic breakfast dishes but with an Asian or Mediterranean twist. Local and Australian grown produce is used as often as possible, with the coffee coming from NSW roastery Di Bella coffee, the free range eggs from Uralla Chook-a-Look and baked goods from Early Rise Baking Co. You could hop into the Keto breakfast, avocado smash with black sesame, ricotta hotcakes or stick with the classic Big Breakfast.
While enjoying your meal you can also take in a series of artworks by Tony LaChiusa, a self taught contemporary artist from Tamworth. He’s teamed with the cafe to show his pieces with all paintings being for sale.

Deco Wine Bar & Restaurant
Locally owned and operated, the Deco Wine Bar & Restaurant is perfect for a classy breakfast or brunch. Their modern Australian menu is popular with locals and tourists alike, and their customer service recently earned them an award nomination.
On the breakfast menu is a range of hot and cold dishes, with gluten free and vegan alternatives available upon request. Another of the Peel Street cafes, Gusto is only a few minutes walk from Bicentennial Park and the Tamworth Regional Gallery. Open for breakfast and lunch, it offers a welcoming atmosphere with a range of dine in and take away options.
Choose between a range of tasty breakfast dishes including the brioche French toast with maple syrup and ice cream, bacon or mushroom omelette, breakfast burger, or eggs benedict with one of four accompaniments. If you’d rather something smaller, there’s also pumpkin scones, toasted banana or coconut bread, toast with a bread and spread of your choice or a slice of toasted honey and date loaf.

The Inland Cafe
After a decade in the business, The Inland Cafe and owner Kristy have become a staple on the Tamworth cafe scene. Choose between sitting indoors where the baristas do their thing, or outside to enjoy the sunshine and bustle of Peel Street.
There’s something for everyone on the breakfast menu, and with the quick service you won’t be waiting long to eat. For those with a sweet tooth there are Canadian pancakes, French toast and a banana bread treat which comes with fresh banana and a berry compote. Meanwhile, savoury lovers can enjoy their bacon and eggs in a few ways including with toast, in a roll, on the breakfast bruschetta or as part of the Inland Big Brekky or Inland Breakfast wrap.

Burger Bulls
To shake things up a bit, why not try a burger place for breakfast? Opening at 8am Burger Bulls is around early enough to fill anyone up before a busy day around Tamworth.
Starting with the burgers, there’s a choice between beef, chicken, pork, lamb, vegetarian or plant based. The signature option is the Peel Street beef burger, but the BBQ pulled pork, slow cooked lamb with salsa or Mr Crispy chicken burger with Bulls Special Sauce look tempting as well. The vegetarian and vegan options are quite varied, using veggie patties, mushrooms and Beyond vegan meat patties to bring it all together.
