Your guide to hiking The Wollomombi Walk

Charlotte and Ross, friends of FOUND Regional, love hitting the region’s hiking trails with baby Margot in tow. Here they share their top tips when tackling the Wollomombi Walk.

This walk has it all, from an amazing lookout just 300 metres from the carpark, to longer walks that traverse through woodland upstream to the falls! All up there are five lookouts you can enjoy on the Wollomombi Walk, every one of them rewarding you with phenomenal views across the gorge and waterfalls.

The details

Option one – 300 metre accessible walk to the main lookout. Lap up that luscious view in a hop, skip and a jump!

Option two – 7km walk that encompasses all five lookouts. Sure, this will require a fair bit more physical exertion than option one, but boy is it worth it. The hills are gentle and the views sweet. It’s also clearly signposted with just a few steps along the way. We recommend allowing 1.5-2 hours for this adventure. Just remember to check the weather forecast before you set off and pack your trusty water bottle.

Location – You’ll find this gem in the Wollomombi Falls precinct of Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Follow the signs on the Waterfall Way between Armidale and Dorrigo.

Need to know? – No phone signal, no dogs allowed.

Facilities – Carpark, toilets and barbecue facilities at the start of the walk.

Top tip

Before you set off, we highly recommend hitting up a local farmers’ market for baked goods and coffee. Once you’ve arrived, start walking along the stunning gorge (remember to pick jaw up off the floor), then find a spot by the water to devour baked goods. You’re welcome.
